Anti-aging Secret from China!

So here's something that I found that was featured in the book, "Passport to Beauty", written by Shalini Vadhera.

Apparently, this is the anti-aging beauty secret used amongst the woman in China. And I mean, we all know how gorgeous their skin is and how well they age!

So here it is:

Take some ground powder green tea. Add some white tea and lemon juice to make it into a paste like consistency. Use it all over the face as a mask. Let it sit for a while. Rinse with warm water and pat your face dry.

So why would this work? You know enough about me by now to know that I need some sort of scientific backing for these types of claims. Well...

Green tea, as we know, is a very powerful anti-oxidant. So all that stress and pollution that takes a toll on our skin by use of free radicals can be minimized by not only ingesting anti-oxidants, but also using them topically.

White tea is also a power anti-oxidant and works in the same way to prevent premature aging from all that life throws at us.

Lemon juice - as in my last post, helps with discoloration and hyper-pigmentation, thereby promoting even skin tone.

So there you have it! I haven't given this one a try just yet - but will keep you posted on what I think once I try it. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it also.

Oh and want to maximize the effects? It doesn't hurt to add a cup of green or white tea to your daily menu. Why not fight aging in all ways possible?

Cheers to being young forever - on the inside and out! :)

Home Remedy for FABULOUS Skin

So I came across a home remedy that not only has people raving about it - but it also has scientific evidence as to why it would actually work.

So here it is for you:

Mix 1 tbsp of plain yogurt with 1 tsp of sunflower oil and 1 tsp of lemon juice.
Mix this up well and rub it into your skin.
Rinse off with warm water and pat your skin dry.

So how does it work?

The yogurt is a natural skin exfoliant because of the lactic acid that it contains.
The sunflower oil will help seal in moisture, keeping your skin hydrated, thereby preventing wrinkles.
The lemon juice helps balance the pH and is also a whitener which inhibits melatonin that results i
n age spots.

So give this a try - I know I will.

I would love to hear your thoughts - before and after :)

Cheers to FABULOUS skin! :)

Organic or not?

So a lot of people have been asking me the same question: "Does it really make a big difference whether we buy organic or not?" and so I thought I would put up some valuable information about this and some of the misconceptions that exist.

Well, simply put, if you can buy it organic - do! But with everyone tightening their belts amongst this rocky financial arena and the prices of organic produce being ridiculously high compared to its conventional counterparts, we can be smart about it.

Luckily, we have some wonderful organizations that can help us make the right decisions. The EWG (Environmental Working Group) has done extensive research on the most common produce and pesticide levels. Pesticides have been linked to nervous system damage, cancer, lowered immune systems, and endocrine problems. In short, this is what EWG has found:

Buy the following ORGANIC (because they tend to have the highest pesticide loads):
  1. Peaches
  2. Apples
  3. Sweet Bell Peppers
  4. Celery
  5. Nectarines
  6. Strawberries
  7. Cherries
  8. Kale
  9. Lettuce
  10. Grapes (imported)
  11. Carrots
  12. Pears
And the following is pretty low on the pesticide list and can be bought CONVENTIONALLY grown:

  1. Onions
  2. Avocados
  3. Sweet Corn
  4. Pineapple
  5. Mangoes
  6. Asparagus
  7. Sweet Peas
  8. Kiwi
  9. Cabbage
  10. Eggplant
  11. Papaya
  12. Watermelon
  13. Broccoli
  14. Tomato
  15. Sweet Potato
For an extensive list of about 50 foods and the order of the pesticide levels, and more information about your foods, you can visit their website at www.foodnews.org.

Happy New Year! Set those goals today!

It's that time again: the time we all sit down and write down our resolutions for the new year.

For most of us, getting healthier, in better shape, or just taking care of ourselves is on the list practically every year. But how many of us actually follow through on these goals? Sometimes we don't because of a lack of motivation. Sometimes, its because we don't know how to achieve these goals exactly.

So here's a little something on goals and how writing them down is just as important as creating them (www.lifemastering.com):

This is from a study that was conducted at the Harvard MBA school in 1979. In that year, the students were asked, "Have you set clear, written goals for your future and made plans to accomplish them?" Only three percent of the graduates had written goals and plans; 13 percent had goals, but they were not in writing; and a whopping 84 percent had no specific goals at all.

Ten years later, the members of the class were interviewed again, and the findings, while somewhat predictable, were nonetheless astonishing. The 13 percent of the class who had goals were earning, on average, twice as much as the 84 percent who had no goals at all. And what about the three percent who had clear, written goals? They were earning, on average, ten times as much as the other 97 percent put together.

That's a HUGE difference, don't you think?

So how do you identify in the clearest terms the things you want out of life and how to make the plan to help you achieve those things? Brian Tracy says there are four reasons why people don't set goals:
  1. They don't realize about the important of goals. If the people with whom you spend the most time - family, freinds, colleagues, and so forth - are not clear and committed to goals, there is a chance that you will not be, either.
  2. They dont know how to set goals. Some set goals that are too general. These are, in reality, fantasies common to everyone. Goals, on the other hand, are clear, written, specific, and measurable.
  3. They fear failure. Failure hurts, but it is often necessary to experience failure in order to achieve the greatest success. Do no unconsciously sabotage yourself by not setting any goals in which you might fail.
  4. They fear rejection. People are often afraid that if they are unsuccessful at achieving a goal, others will be critical of them. This is remedied by keeping your goals to yourself at the outset; let others see your results and achievements once you've accomplished your goals.
Make a habit of daily goal setting and achieving, for the rest of your life. Focus on the things you want, rather than the things you don't want. Resolve to be a goal-seeking organism, moving unerringly toward the things that are important to you.

Here at 'the balance clinic', we can help you get off to a right start by helping you achieve that balance. Using our food sensitivity testing, we can tell you which foods work well with your body and which ones you should avoid for a while. Further to this, we can do a nutritional needs assessment that will let us know what vitamins, minerals, nutritional aids your body is asking for right now. By changing our eating habits and giving our body the fuel it needs, we'll be in a better place physically, emotionally, and mentally to achieve the rest of the goals we have all laid out for 2010.

So if your resolutions for 2010 include achieving a healthy balance, contact 'the balance clinic' today to set up a consultation that will help you get closer to reaching your goal.
